Walkers A Group
Christ Church Walkers “A” Group Programme 2017
7th January. Eildons from Tweedbank Station. We make use of the Borders railway, to travel to Tweedbank. We then walk along the banks of the Tweed to Melrose, before ascending the Eildon Hills. We return to Melrose, and again walk by the Tweed to get back to Tweedbank Station. Distance 13 km, ascent 465 metres. OS Sheet 73/Explorer 338. (A. Shotter, 0131 221 0505)
4th February. Pentlands from Flotterstone. This is likely to be a tour of Turnhouse Hill, Carnethy Hill and Scald Law, returning either via Logan Lea and Glencorse reservoirs or around the backside of Black Hill and Glencorse reservoir. Distance 13/18km, 609m ascent. OS Sheet 66. (S. Green)
4th March. Ben Vorlich and Stuc a' Chroin. Starting on the south shore of Loch Earn, a 4-kilometre walk up Glenvorlich and then more steeply up the north shoulder of Ben Vorlich will add a Munro to your list. Splendid views over Loch Earn and across to the mountains to the North can be had. The route onwards to Stuc a'Chroin is rockier but will add another Munro to your list and reward you with further vistas to the South. Distance 17km, ascent 1200m. OS Sheets 51 & 57. (A. Lacey)
1st April. Circular walk from Peebles taking in the Meldons. From Peebles we ascend Hamilton Hill and the Meldons. Our return will use attractive paths beside the Tweed. Distance 16km, ascent 750m. OS Sheet 73/Explorer 337.
6th & 7th May. Weekend at Newtonmore. Walks to suit all tastes and abilities will be possible! OS Sheet 35. (T. Horne)
3rd June. Ben Lawers circuit. On the north side of Loch Tay the circuit takes in seven Munros and affords magnificent views. Distance 20km, ascent 1750 m. OS Sheet 51. (L. MacDougall, )
1st July. A walk from Blair Atholl. Depending on the weather and the railway timetable, there may be time to do either approaches to Beinn a‘Ghlo, (21.5km, 1300m) or if not, a Glen Banvie circular. Distance 17km, ascent 250m. OS Sheet 43. (S. Green)
5th August. Angus glens. Details of this walk starting and finishing in one of the beautiful Angus glens will be advised later. OS Sheet 44. (T. Horne, )
2nd September. Glen Tilt from Blair Atholl. A walk from Blair Atholl station through Glen Tilt following part of the route that linked Braemar and places further north with markets in the south. The route passes though woods and open hillsides before a steeper climb to the viewpoint. Returning on the other side of the glen. Distance 20km, ascent 520m. OS Sheet 35 (S. Green)
7th October. Wether Law from Romannobridge. Starting from Newlands Church we ascend Whiteside Hill to explore ancient fortifications at the summit. Then we follow a line of several tops, all of which have commanding views northwards to the Pentlands. After reaching Wether Law our return route follows tracks beside the Flemington Burn. 4th November. Glen Turret. A circular high level walk around the glen taking in a series of tops of around 780 m and one Munro, Ben Chonzie. Distance 20km, ascent 1300 m. OS Sheet 52. (L. MacDougall, )
2nd December. Coastal Walk. Coastal walk from North Berwick to Longniddry, mainly using the John Muir Way. Distance 19km, negligible ascent. OS Sheet 66/Explorer 351. (A. Shotter)

Walks are on every third Saturday of each month, usually leaving around 9.15am. Walks vary in difficulty depending on the season and the weather on the day.

We leave Edinburgh between 9 and 9.30am depending on the distance to and length of the walk . All walks are subject to change in bad weather, but we usually manage to walk somewhere.
